Our Model
We define a survivor as any person who has experienced sexual assault, whether or not they choose to share their experience publicly. The term sexual assault refers to sexual contact or behavior that occurs without explicit consent of the victim. Some forms of sexual assault include:
Penetration of the victim’s body, also known as rape, or attempted rape
Pressuring, threatening, or tricking a victim into sexual activity, also known as coercion
Forcing a victim to perform sexual acts such as oral sex
Fondling or unwanted sexual touching
Using social media and other technology to engage in harassment or non-consensual sexual interactions
At Reviving Sisterhood, we use a survivor-centered model, meaning that the experiences, needs, and identities of survivors are at the core and drive the direction of all work addressing sexual violence. Through individual healing, community training, advocacy and public policy, we stand with and support survivors, helping each through her own healing journey.
